2. Thousand Trails Oaks at Point South, Yemassee, SC
July 20-22 (Sat-Mon)
We had a misshap on the way to Yemassee. We stopped to grab some lunch, hit the curb in the parking lot and damaged 2 stabilizers in the process.
Fortunately, this did not impede our driving to our next stop. However, we will have to deal with it before we go much further.
This RV park was a lot larger than the previous one but not as nice. One thing Steve noticed is that the electric, water and sewer lines were in the same spot, which didn't seem terribly safe. The park had the usual amenities but didn't have the same feel as Walkabout Camp in GA.
Our first night here, we had a good 'ole thunderstorm and lots of rain. Emme was unfazed by it all.
On Sunday, we watched CCOTL's service online and headed out to see the sights.
First we stopped at the Frampton Plantation House which is currently a museum/gift shop/welcome center.
Then we swung by the Carolina Cider Company, where we picked up some Muscadine cider for the road.
Next, we visited the Old Sheldon House Ruins (thanks to Lisa's recommendation!)
There was an authentic working manual water pump at the entrance to the Ruins. Steve obligingly demonstrated 😁
Of course, we couldn't resist stopping at the Brays Island Plantation (not a plantation at all, but a golf course, we found out later).
On Monday, we headed to Parris Island, where Steve spent bootcamp as a Marine recruit around 40 years ago! It brought back many memories. Steve joined the Marines when he was 23; he was considered the old-timer and dubbed "Papa Smurf". Steve recalls those years with fondness and great pride.
