12. Schoodic Woods (Acadia National Park) Winter Harbor, ME
Aug 11-14 (Sun-Wed)
We arrived at the Schoodic Campground around 2 pm. We had a private spot with electricity and water. The weather was fantastic; 70's during the day and 60's at night. The Acadia National Park has several locations, including 2 in Mount Desert Island (Seawall & Blackwoods), 1 in the Schoodic Peninsula (Schoodic Woods), and 1 in Isle au Haut (Duck Harbor).
On Monday, we headed towards Bar Harbor, an hour away. It's a beautiful town with many shops and a grassy area beside the water, where folks can sit and enjoy the view of Frenchman Bay. Of course, we had to try the lobster roll, which did not disappoint. It was delicious!
On Tuesday, we had a reservation to watch the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island. At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is the tallest mountain on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. We left our campground at 3 am, arrived there around 4:30, and waited 2 hours for the sunrise. Unfortunately, the sky was overcast, and we didn't see the sun actually rise 😟 but we did get some nice shots. It was in the low 50's 🥶
Later that morning, Steve went to the Winter Harbor Lobster co-op and brought us lunch!
On our last day, we drove to see Thunder Hole, a popular Maine attraction. Sadly, the tide wasn't right so we did not get the full effect of it. You can learn more about it, using the following links.
