July 26-29 (Fri-Mon)

On Friday, we hiked 2 miles on the Piedmont Medical Center Trail with Jim, Angie and Emme. We saw a momma deer and her fawn! We can't get over how green everything is.

After lunch, we took one last ride on the pontoon boat. It was so relaxing. 😴

Views from Jim and Angie's home. Simply stupendous!

We said our goodbyes and headed to Concord to pick the RV up at 6 PM. We arrived at our next stop, Riverbreeze Campground in Marion, NC, 2 hours later and settled down for the night.

We started the next day (Saturday) by checking out The Historic Marion Tailgate Market nearby with our friends Dan and Tracy. These cabbages weighed around 13 lbs!

We had lunch at Burrito Brothers where Emme made a couple of friends!

After lunch, Steve and I went to Little Switzerland, 20 minutes north of the campground. Click on this link to read more about it https://www.visitlittleswitzerland.com/

Then we headed to the Orchard at Altapass located in the Blue Ridge Parkway, about 10 minutes away. We caught the tail end of a live Bluegrass/Gospel performance.

We walked through the general store and the orchard. Curiously enough, Marion holds an annual Bigfoot Festival in May. https://marionbigfootfestival.com/

Emme and Steve couldn't resist a photo opp!

We ended a great day with a delicious dinner prepared by Chef Dan ☺️

On Sunday, we watched a livestream of CCOTL's service while watching the live stream outside our camper 😁 This RV park is located right by the Catawba river.

Afterwards, we enjoyed the river while Emme practiced her swimming.

We had lunch at Hillman Beer in Old Fort. This brewery storefront looked deceptively small but had 10,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor seating. It was a family and pet friendly place by Mill Creek with a great atmosphere. We really enjoyed the food too. We shared a Cuban sandwich and kale salad.

On Monday and our last day in Marion, we ventured into the Toms Creek Falls Trail. The waterfall is 80 ft and located in the Pisgah National Forest. We hiked with Emme to the base of the waterfall. It was warm and humid so we opted not to hike to the top. Keep in mind, Ofie and SloMo are amateur hikers 🦥

Emme had a grand old time!

Later at the campground, we tried floating down the river but didn't get too far. The river was very shallow and rocky. So instead, we just decided to sit and chill. Ah, the retired life!

We had dinner at a local Mexican joint, Salsas. The food was pretty good. I enjoyed the tamal/taco/rice combo we ordered. I wasn't thrilled with the chicken tortilla soup; it was more of a sour vegetable soup (Mezcal's is much better!). We enjoyed spending more time with Dan and Tracy.
