This was the entrance to the McDowell Nature Preserve. Sadly, we didn't get to stay there.

July 23-25 (Tue-Thu)

On Tuesday, we dropped the RV off at the Blue Compass dealership in Concord, NC and spent the night at a Comfort Inn in Fort Mill, SC. We grabbed dinner next door at Famous Dave's right before a lightning storm. We lost power at 8pm and it was not back on when we checked out the next morning at 8. So, we had no lights, no AC, and no hot water.

Blessings: We picked up and ate dinner before the blackout (the restaurants around us also lost power). We slept comfortably despite the lack of AC and the cold shower was not as traumatic as Ofelia feared.

Our view down the hotel hallway after the blackout. Someone had opened a door to let light in. The lack of emergency lights was an obvious code violation.

We've been fans of Famous Dave's rib rub seasoning for a long time. We didn't realize they had restaurants too.

Sadly, we were not able to stay at the McDowell Nature Preserve because of the aforementioned RV repairs. We did spend the next 2 days with Steve's cousin Jim and his lovely wife Angie. They have a gorgeous house on Lake Wylie, in Charlotte, NC. On Wednesday, we toured the lake on their pontoon boat along with Angie's cousin Maria. After lunch, we just chilled and hung out on the lake. Steve, Emme, and Maria tried their hand at paddle boarding. They all did amazingly, considering it was their first time.

After an amazing dinner of pork loin and sweet potatoes, we just sat on the deck and enjoyed the gorgeous lake view.

Jim and Angie graciously opened up their home to us for the next 2 nights. We're praying that the repairs will be completed by Friday, so we can continue our travels.

On Thursday, we went to Freedom Park in Charlotte. It was a gorgeous park with ballfields, lake and lots of lush greenery.

This Thursday's food truck offering at Jim & Angie's development!

Later that evening, we went to OMB (The Olde Mecklenberg Brewery) with Jim and Angie. The guys had drinks and the ladies had some sides of mac and cheese and Bratkartoffeln (fried German potato salad). It was tasty thought a bit salty. As an aside, Charlotte boasts 70+ breweries!
