8. Heritage Alpaca Farm & Events, Flora, IN

5/11 (Sun)
Our next stop was at an alpaca farm, our first Harvest Host this year.

They had a cute little shop. Steve bought a pair of alpaca fiber insoles and I bought an alpaca keychain.
The alpacas are gentle, placid creatures. We learned that they only have bottom teeth in the front, which gives them that cute underbite expression. This particular farm has around 50 alpacas, most of them Suri (which is the rarer type) and some Huacaya. Click this link to learn more about them and two types of fleece they produce: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpaca_fiber. In essence, Huacaya fiber is better suited for knitting, whereas Suri fiber is better for weaving.
