19. Lewis & Clark Recreation Area, Yankton, SD
6/1-6/6 (Sun-Fri)
Steve drove 8 hours from Davenport, Iowa to Yankton SD, probably our longest drive yet.
Our dear friends, Andy and Lucy were there to welcome us. Emme was ecstatic to see her bestie Moka. After we set up, we went for a walk by the water. Moka and Emme, of course, had to take a dip in the lake.

On Wednesday, Andy, Steve, Lucy and their grandson Laiken went shooting while I shopped. Later that day, we had a picnic with their daughters and grandkids. The ground squirrels kept us entertained.
The pictures on the left and right were taken by Lucy.

The squirrels were not afraid of people and ventured very close to us.
On Thursday, we went on a hike on the Calumet Bluff Trail. Although the hike was a little challenging for an amateur like me, the payoff was worth it.

On Friday, we went to the Mead Cultural Education Center. This building has a very interesting history. It was a mental hospital back in the late 1800's and one of the exhibits depicts life as a patient in this facility. It's a beautiful building with marble staircases, which reinforced Dr. Mead's philosophy that psychiatric patients could benefit from beautiful surroundings.

Later, we had a cookout and played corn hole. I was terrible at it but had fun anyway.

After we left Yankton, we realized that Momo was nowhere to be found! It seems that Momo needed a break, so he decided to spend a little time with Uncle Andy and Aunt Lucy, who was kind enough to send us a video of his adventures.
